F.A.Q Q. Do you like any rock guitar player? A.Yes, Jeff Beck is one of my favorites. Also I like a lot Robert Fripp and Brian Jones who was mi first guitar hero (a complete musician). I like the Eric Clapton stuff with Cream, and Jimi Hendrix. Also, there are many others rock guitar players that I like a lot. Q. Do you like pop music? A. Yes, I like all kind of music. My favorite pop band is from the sixties, it is "The Herman`s Hermits" (with Peter Noone), and actually my favorite pop band is "XTC", specially the cds "Skylarcking", "Oranges & lemonds" and "Apple Venus, vol.1". Q. Which is your best known composition? A. I´m not sure, "Pendulum" and "Una Tarde con Timme Friedel" are the tunes that has more versions recorded, but maybe the most played is "Virtualmente" that is called by many venezuelan musicians as "La balada Micó", and also it was mentioned in the book "Solos de Bajo" by Ana María Cian (edit. Predios, page13). Q. Have you ever tried a solid body guitar? A. Yes, I have a Gibson SG from 1974 (I played with it the intro and the coda of the song "Modal Prologue" from my cd "Untitled Dreams", and the coda of the tune "Canción para un Méndigo" from the Antonia´s cd "Blanco y Azul" ). Also, I have a Fender Stratocaster from 1978 (I played with it the tune "Spinning Wheel" for the Andy Duran´s cd "Latin Jazz & more" ). Q. Are you married? A. No, I used to be long time ago. Now I am divorcied, and I have no child. My children are my students. Q. Do you have a favorite singer? A. I like many singers, but my favorites are: Jo Staford, Anita O`day, Julie London, Carmen McRae, and from Venezuela: Biela Da Costa and Antonia Toro. My favorites male singers are: Frank Sinatra, Johnny Hartman and Mick Jagger. Q. Are you a full time musician? A. Yes, I do three things to live: I play the guitar, I write music and I teach music. I have not other hobby but music. Q. Which is your favorite jazz album? A. My favorites jazz albums are: "Kind of Blue"- Miles (Columbia), "Giant Steps"- Coltrane (Atlantic), "Ballads"- Coltrane (Atlantic), "You must believe in spring"- Bill Evans (WarnerBros.), "Swedish Schapps"- Bird (Verve); and jazz guitar albums: "This is Tal Farlow"- Tal Farlow (Verve), "The return of Tal Farlow"- Tal Farlow (Prestige), "The Red Norvo trio with Tal Farlow and Charles Mingus"- The Savoy Sessions (Savoy), "The incredible jazz guitar of Wes Montgomery"- Wes Montgomery (Riverside), "Where would I be?" - Jim Hall (Milestone) and the last recording by Django Reinhardt in March, 1953: "Django Reinhardt et ses Rythmes" , that was reedited as "Peche a la Mouche"- Django Reinhardt. Q. Have you ever tried effects or pedals ? A. Sometimes I have played with an old digital delay (BOSS DE-200) to get a deep echo effect, and sometimes I have played with a distortion box (BOSS DS-1D), a super shifter (BOSS PS-5) to get just an specific effect, and a Phaser (Electro Harmonix-Small Stone) made in Russia. Q. What do you feel when somebody in the street ask you for an autograph ? A. Well, I´m not sure, I´m not a star, I´m just a musician who try to play good music. It only happened once, long time ago when I was with a famous actress in a restaurant... and I was the most surprised ...
