Biografia

Gonzalo Micó is one of the maximal exponents of the guitar in Venezuela, and for many years, one of the few columns of jazz in his country. He began like guitar player with the master Joe Diorio, like composer with the master Carl Schroeder, and he is graduated in Guitar Institute of Technology (Hollywood, California).

In 1982, he recorded his first disc "Cinemascope" which was one of the first discs of jazz made in Venezuela, next year he recorded "Be-Jazz-Artes". In the year 1985 he edited his disc called "Gonzalo Micó", with only original compositions. In this time, also he dedicated partial time to education, and he founded the school of music "Ars Nova", which was an impact in Venezuelan musical ambient.

In 1990, he edited his disc "Virtualmente", the first disc of jazz made in Venezuela in the format compact disc. In those years, Gonzalo participated in jazz festivals in the Caribbean area (Curazao and Trinidad), where he began to be in contact with the timbric beauty of Steel-Pan, instrument he played with fairly success, incorporating it in his performances and recordings.

In 1992, he published his disc "Caribbean Colors", adding some Caribbean elements and instruments, and in 1996 he edited his disc "Untitled Dreams" regarded by critical specialists as the best jazz disc made in Venezuela.

In 1999, he edited "Ambiance Café" in which he interpretates original motives and some of Django Reinhardt. In 2001, Micó and Marcus Vinicius made the music for the premiere of the film "Topocho sin sal" , a the film producer Ibrahim Prieto (German-Venezuelan production). In September 2001, he edited his eigth disc "Juegos de Playa". Early in 2003, he edited "Lentement Mademoiselle" in which he only interpretates Django Reinhardt music.

During his career he has recorded like music of session, discs of: Gastón Irazábal, Chiqui Rojas, Andy Durán y Gerardo Chacón; his compositions has been recorded by Rubén Riera, Gastón Irazábal, Luis Julio Toro, Marcus Vinicius, Pablo Gil, Ivan Adler and Isabel Santos, and he has played together with legendary musicians, like James Moody, Claudio Roditi, Ted Shumate, Jim Ates and Longineu Parsons.
